Bearing Pillow Block

Bearings paly a pivot role in all machineries and applications. In the past, bearings were handmade, and a few types of bearings were available. With the development of technology more comprehensive types of bearings were required to serve latest machineries. To meet the needs, several types of bearings with more strength and load bearing capacities were invented.

Basically, bearings are used to offer smooth functioning of machines. They act as lubricator in between two moving parts and helps frictionless rotation to provide longer lifespan and efficiency. Bearingsare categorized into several types based on the function, type of roller present, load capacity, and application.

Based on the rollers, the bearings are categorized into spherical, ball, roller cylindrical, tapered roller and so on. To serve special purpose such as heavy loads and heavy vibrations special types of bearings are made. One among them are bearing pillow block which are made to serve addition support for the bearing with a pedestal. These bearing includes a mounting block and the bearings.

Some of the benefits of Using Bearing Pillow Block

A bearing when secured with accessories and screws on a shaft on a mounting surface parallel to the plane and vertical to the mounting holes is called as a pillow block bearing. A pillow block bearing can hold any type of bearing such as cylindrical pillow block, spherical pillow block, or any other bearing. The basic design of the bearing is the pedestals and the mounting block that help to withstand heavy vibration to handle heavy loads. The mounting unit hold the bearing in place holding it tightly and prevents vibrational force.

To with stand vibration, the block is fixed, and the base is screwed to the plane surface. This allows the pillow block to fix firmly on the ground or the surface holding the bearing tightly. The bearing is fixed with the help of locking collars, screws or set collars. The outer surface is fixed and does not involve in any rotation and allows the inner surface to rotate. Furthermore, the inner surface is .025 mm larger than the shaft to guarantee tight fit of the bearing to the shaft.

These bearings are mostly made of castiron or cast steel to ensure sturdiness and strength. A bearing pillow block is named after the bearing it holds. For instance, if the pillow bloc hold a cylindrical bearing it is named as cylindrical pillow block bearing.

You can find two types of bearing pillow block available in the market

Solid type

These bearings offer clean working environment without any oil stains and dust and other contaminants as the whole unit is concealed and lubrication is provided through the lubrication hole.
